Last weekend we experienced Comic Con for the first time in Rosemont, IL. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a great time – and kind of overwhelming, too. I had no idea there would be so many people there. It really was remarkable the amount of following that this kind of event pulls. I was really so intrigued. I was never into Comics or anything, but I have been a huge follower of shows like Charmed and Dexter, which I know have a large underground cult following in these venues, as well.
One tip for parents with stroller bound children – skip the stroller – or bring one that is small, like an umbrella stroller. I think we would have had better luck there, if we would have had Cohen in the Baby Bjorn, or would have just carried him. Navigating the stroller through the MASSIVE crowds was very difficult, but it did help in keeping too many people from bumping into me! I have inherited a trait from my father – one that makes events like Comic Con scary – my fear of crowds! I must say, though, that Cohen LOVED being there. He is such nosy baby, and there was so much for him to look at and take in. He loved seeing all the characters dressed up, and just all the people wondering through the aisles. And I must admit, so did my husband and me.
While there, I also got to see the actors/actresses from the Buffy/Angel series. Being such a fan of all things celeb and TV, I loved being able to see and take pictures of these guys! Among the celebs was Charisma Carpenter, Julie Benz (also from my fav show, Dexter!) and Nicholas Brendan. It was great to be able to send their photos to my brother, who was a HUGE fan of Buffy/Angel! He was quite jealous of us!
While I didn’t wait in the lines to pay for an autograph or photo with the actors, it was still very exciting to just walk by and see them. We thank Wizard World for inviting us to the event and cannot wait for next year when Cohen is another year older and we are wiser about how to approach the event!
